IISER Bhopal was established in 2008 (Founder Director, Padma Shri Professor Vinod K. Singh). The current Director of the institute is Prof. Gobardhan Das. The campus is located on 200 acres of land. It is a state-of-the-art educational and research campus with lecture halls, a well-equipped central instrumentation facility, a library, computer facilities, research laboratories, meeting halls/auditoriums, and residential facilities for the community members. The Institute has a total of 10 academic departments (in natural sciences, engineering sciences, and humanities & social sciences, and several centres catering to the learning and research aspirations of students and faculty members.
About NASI
The National Academy of Sciences, India (NASI), the oldest science academy in India, envisions the cultivation and promotion of Science & Technology in all its branches, through its 21 chapters and multipronged activities. NASI collaborates with other national academies in its pursuit to promote the application of science and technology for societal development. The Annual Session is the flagship event for synergizing the discoveries and innovations of the scientific fraternity and their interface with government, industry, and society at large.
The 94th Annual Session will be held in Bhopal and hosted by the Indian Institute of Science Education and Research (IISER) Bhopal. A Symposium on ‘Accelerated R & D towards a Viksit Bharat’, will be held during the Annual Session. This symposium is dedicated to the Past President of the Academy Bharat Ratna Dr. M. S. Swaminathan. The Scientific Sessions will be held in two sections: Section of Physical Sciences and Biological Sciences.
Presentation
Presentation of papers (posters only) in the Symposium would only be based on confirmation of the abstracts submitted as per the information communicated by NASI. The poster format will be communicated to the corresponding authors after the acceptance of papers.
The abstract(s) of paper(s) (not exceeding 250 words), for presentation in the scientific session, should reach the latest by September 30, 2024 October 10, 2024 to nasiannualsession94@gmail.com. An author can submit up to a maximum of three papers, including papers having more than one author. Bonafide research scholars are required to get their abstract(s)/research paper(s) forwarded by the Supervisor and/or the Head of the Department/Institution.
All abstracts/papers submitted for presentation will be screened. Authors whose papers are accepted will be informed at the earliest. The decision of the Academy for the acceptance would be final. The travel/ticket charges (AC-III, shortest route) will be reimbursed by NASI to the presenting authors, only.
All interested persons are invited to attend the Symposium and Scientific Sessions of Physical and Biological Sciences; however, the facilities will be available only to those who register for the symposium.

Registration:
All attendees must fill out the registration form. The registration fee is non-refundable.
Fellows and Members of NASI are exempted from paying the registration fee; for all others, the registration fee is Rs.1000/-. The registration fee should be sent to IISER Bhopal.
The registration fee covers food during the symposium and local convenience to/from the selected places of accommodation and conference venue.

Accommodation (single/sharing) will be arranged on a first-come-first-serve basis upon payment in the nearby guest houses/hotels available.

Children's Science Meet
Students studying science from various schools will meet and interact one-to-one with the eminent scientists, Prof. H C Verma and Prof. Ajoy K Ghatak. This event will be organized on the first day of the Session, i.e., on 1st Dec. 2024. The students from Bhopal and adjoining areas will be invited by the host institution (IISER Bhopal) for this event.

Prof. Ajoy Kumar Ghatak
Prof. Ajoy Kumar Ghatak is an Indian physicist and author of physics textbooks. Prof. Ghatak has written over 170 research papers and more than 20 books. His undergraduate textbook on Optics has been translated to Chinese and Persian and his monograph on Inhomogeneous Optical Waveguides (coauthored with Professor Sodha) has been translated to Chinese and Russian.
In 1995, he was elected Fellow of the Optica (society) "for distinguished service to optics education and for his contribution to the understanding of propagation characteristics of gradient index media, fibers and integrated optical devices".
Prof. H C Verma
Prof. Harish Chandra Verma (born 3 April 1952), popularly known as HCV, is an Indian experimental physicist, author, and emeritus professor of the Indian Institute of Technology Kanpur. In 2021, he was awarded the Padma Shri, the fourth highest civilian award, by the Government of India for his contribution to Physics Education. His field of research is nuclear physics.
He has authored several school, undergraduate and graduate level textbooks, including but not limited to the most popular and most notably the two-volume Concepts of Physics, extensively used by students appearing for various high-level competitive examinations.
He has co-founded Shiksha Sopan, a social upliftment organization for economically weaker children living near the campus of IIT Kanpur. He has dedicated himself in training young minds in the field of Physics. He has immensely contributed to popularising Physics education among Indian students and teachers by conducting lectures and experimental demonstrations. He has been awarded the Maulana Abul Kalam Azad Shiksha Puruskar by the Bihar state government.
